Starting therapy can feel like a big step. I expect you might be feeling a mix of curiosity, uncertainty, or even a bit of apprehension about it. The introductory session is designed to ease you in gently.
This first session isn’t about going deep or sharing everything all at once. It’s a space for us to meet, to get a sense of one another, and to begin to explore whether working together feels like the right fit.
I practice Core Process Psychotherapy, a mindfulness-based approach that brings together psychological understanding with a gentle awareness of the body and inner experience. I orient to how it is for you to be in the world, to what your experience is like. You don’t need to have any prior knowledge of this type of therapy, or of any therapy for that matter. Part of the session is an opportunity for you to ask questions about how I work and what therapy with me might be like. If you’d like to get more of a sense of me beforehand, you can read more about me here.
During the introductory session, I’ll ask some simple, practical questions about what’s bringing you to therapy and what’s happening in your life right now. There’s no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with. We’re simply beginning to build a picture together and to sense whether this kind of therapeutic work would support you.
You’re also very welcome to bring your own questions about therapy, about me, or about anything you’re unsure of. This is as much your chance to get a feel for me as it is for me to understand you.
What you need to know – the basics:
The introductory session is 45mins and free of charge. Sessions thereafter are 1 hour and cost £40.
All sessions are confidential, I’m guided by the ethical codes of the UKCP and ACPP. Confidentiality is something we’ll discuss further in the introductory session.
In-person sessions take place in my private office at Unit 24 in The Malthouse, Regents Street, Llangollen. There’s on-site parking available for free to my client, it can get very busy there but there are two council-run carparks nearby, both just a few minutes’ walk from my office.
Online sessions are held on Zoom.
After your introductory session, if we both feel it’s a good fit, we would usually agree to an initial block of six sessions and then review together. For many people, therapy becomes a space for longer-term, more in-depth work after this.
You can book an introductory session via the contact form here. There is no obligation to continue beyond this first meeting, it’s simply a chance to see how it feels and learn more.
Taking that first step can feel significant, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. This session is simply a place to begin. I look forward to welcoming you.
